Calling all Kindergarten kids – it’s time to put on your cap and gown.

On Saturday, June 19, CBC Kids is hosting a national graduation ceremony for kindergarteners called CBC Kids Kindie Class of 2021. The ceremony will take place as a live event on the CBC Kids Facebook page at 1 p.m.

For the second year in a row, this live broadcast will celebrate youngsters who can’t enjoy their graduation in person due to school closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year’s hour-long event is available for viewing here, and it included a dance party, diploma colouring and more. It was nominated for a 2021 Canadian Screen Award in the Best Live Production (Social Media) category.

“With so many schools across the country closed to in-person learning or changing things up due to the ‘third wave’, truly celebrating our little ones—who have all been through so much this past year and a half—and their academic accomplishments has never been more important,” the CBC Kids team wrote in a press release.

Young graduates can look forward to seeing host Gary the Unicorn, plus co-hosts Tony, Janaye and Mr. Orlando as they lead games and activities during the broadcast. The ceremony will be interactive, as kids will be able to greet each other in the comments section—and wait for their photo to appear during the live event.

Children from around the country will have their photos featured in the ceremony, as long as they are graduating Kindergarten or preschool in 2021. More than 3,200 photos were shared last year. For parents and caregivers who would like to submit photos of their children, head to cbcparents.ca between May 27 and June 1.
