Camp offers tools for handling grief
Do you know a child who has lost a loved one or is have trouble coping with difficult life changes? If so, parents may want to sign them up for a weekend camp being held by NOVA West Island, a nonprofit organization offering various health care services and support.
Geared to kids between the ages of 6-17, the weekend will be filled with a variety of activities, including games, arts and crafts, and campfires. There will also be small group sessions and remembrance ceremonies for the people they’ve lost. All activities and sessions will be led by trained counselors and volunteers to help children cope and learn from whatever obstacles they are facing.
The session starts on the evening of Friday, September 16 and will end at noon on September 18.
It will be held at the Cap St. Jacques Nature Park in Pierrefonds. The camp is free, but NOVA requests a $30 reservation fee that will be returned once the camp is over. Registration, due by September 2, is done on a first-come, first-served basis.
