Become a mermaid for a day
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live under the sea? At the Aquamermaid swimming school, you can leave dry land behind and channel your inner Princess Ariel for the day.
During its Oct. 27 open house at the LaSalle Aquadome, adults and children over the age of 7 will get the chance to try out the brightly coloured ‘tails’ and see what Aquamermaid is all about. The swimming school opened its doors in February and seeks to provide an alternative type of fitness activity. Founder Marielle Chartier-Hénault says most people are surprised at how much of a workout the classes can be.
In order to take part in the classes, participants must have a basic grasp of swimming. They will learn different stretching techniques, synchronized swimming routines, and can play different aquatic games or take part in free-swim sessions. Participants can even take photos in a giant seashell and take home a souvenir snapshot.
Aquamermaid offers one-hour trial sessions for $60, a 10-class package for $300, or become an Aquamermaid member for $75 a month (minimum of three months). Along with these classes, they do private events such as birthday parties.
The open house takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Aquadome in LaSalle, 1411 Lapierre St. Admission is $10 and advanced registration is required.
