Australian circus group brings Carnival of Animals to Montreal

Circa, a circus group originally from Brisbane, Australia, is bringing their vision of contemporary circus acts to Montreal’s TOHU by combining light, sound, acrobats and movement in Carnival of the Animals.

Inspired by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns’s musical suite of the same name, this circus escapade incorporates physical theatre, multimedia and classical music into a wordless 65-minute performance. Most of the music in the show is recomposed versions of different movements from Saint-Saëns’s piece.

Each set design change brings in different performers who tumble, fly, leap and spin their way through the animal kingdom – each movement of the show is supposed to represent a different group of animals.

And for the first time, Circa has added a younger cast to Carnival of the Animals. Sixteen children from Montreal between the ages of 7 and 11 with backgrounds in circus, dance and gymnastics have been selected to join the production.

TOHU will premiere the first show on Dec. 16, 2015 and it will run until Jan. 3, 2016. Tickets for children aged 15 and under range between $15 to $22. Tickets for adults range from $28 to $45. There are special prices for students and seniors.

And as part of a special promotion, the TOHU is offering a 20 per cent discount on adult tickets and children tickets at $15 in all categories for the 2 p.m. shows Dec. 15 and 17. Click here to access the special site and enter the code animaux to get the discount.
