Art festival helps bring out kids’ creativity

Now in its seventh year, the Chromatic Art Festival has doubled the number of days it’s offering kid-friendly programming. The junior portion of the event is a weekend of activities that use digital and visual arts to encourage kids’ artistic sensibilities.

The events, geared towards kids up to 12 years old, are free, led by bilingual animators and most don’t require advanced registration. The festival brings artists from around the world to Montreal every year to help foster creativity and innovation.

Last year, there was a DJing workshop, handmade kite-making sessions and origami lessons. This year, kids will be able to craft their own interactive books, create mascots and make music using fruits and vegetables with a digital music tool, among other activities.

The children’s portion takes place May 21 and 22 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Hangar 16 at the Old Port. Activities will be held both indoors and outdoors. The festival runs from May 19 to 22 and features paintings, interactive installations and nightly musical performances.
