Kids and young adults can get a taste of Africa this summer because the Maritime Centre for African Dance, based in Halifax, is offering a week-long summer camp.

The program will take place August 14-19, 2011 at Camp Jackson Dodds, an hour’s drive north of Montreal. Participants ages 8-21 will spend the week learning African dance and language skills, as well as doing regular camp activities like swimming and hiking. There will be a show for family and friends at the end of the week. The Centre’s staff, who have been travelling across Canada each summer to present the program, hope to increase awareness of African art, history and culture. The camp costs $500, including accommodation, transportation and food. Scholarships are available.
