Families are being invited to rediscover Mount Royal during the month of May when there will be more than 100 family-friendly activities taking place. Les Amis de la Montagne, a non-profit group that works to protect and promote the mountain, has organized several events, especially during the last weekend on May 28 and 29. The Montreal Mini Yacht Club will sail its replicas of ships and sailboats on Beaver Lake both Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In the afternoons, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be organized games and a demonstration of cricket.
Visitors can drop by a kiosk to learn where water comes from on the mountain and where it goes. Afterwards, participants get a kit and go on a type of treasure hunt, getting to apply the knowledge gleaned during the activity. On Sunday at the Beaver Lake Pavillion, there will be a “mobile” puppet show, presented in French only, called La lampée des baladins. Spectators travel from station to station to hear the story, which highlights the beauty of nature and the importance of preserving green space.
Tickets for the puppet show cost $5 for children and $10 for those 16 and older; reservations are required. To reserve, call 514 843-8240, ext. 0. For more information, visit lemontroyal.qc.ca.
