3D printing parties are a creative birthday option

My Studio Party is offering a new type of party where kids can create their own 3D images and print them for keepsakes

Kids can get creative on their birthdays while learning about science and technology thanks to a new 3D printing party service. My Studio Party, a Montreal-based entertainment company that provides services for kids birthday parties, recently launched a Drawing and 3D Printing Party Package in partnership with Ulio 3D.

For My Studio Party CEO Claire Hayek, the 3D printers are a fun and innovative way to celebrate, offering the kids a chance to learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics, while empowering them to make their own creations.

“The challenge is that 3D printers are so expensive and they’re not accessible to the general public,” Hayek says. “So, the kids have an amazing science and technology experience where they learn something really cool, create their own design and walk away with their creation.”

For $275, My Studio Party provides a one-hour package for kids aged 8 to 17, which includes the 3D printers, a how-to workshop given by two staff members, one printed object for each child (up to eight kids) and two printed objects for the birthday boy or girl. They can print a pre-made design or draw their own scribble such as writing their first name. The birthday boy or girl gets an extra, larger 3D-printed design of his/her choice. Kids can then colour their printed 3D item to their liking with permanent markers.

Each item can take up to 10 minutes to print, so if your party has more than eight kids, the price will be adjusted accordingly. Parents can add extra services at an additional cost, such as a red-carpet photo shoot, where kids can dress up in hats, necklaces and bracelets, and show off their designs.

Hayek says she knows parents are always looking for new party ideas and she feels that offering one that taps into children’s creativity is a positive option.
