10 nature camps

Here are some local camps that will satisfy the curiosity of budding naturalists.

Les Amis de la Montagne

Campers learn about the diversity of nature on Mount Royal at these camps where environmental educators take the children out every day, rain or shine, to explore this important green space. Campers enrolled in the program called Les Renards Futés (The Wily Foxes) learn about the plants and animals found on the mountain. This year, there is a new program called Les Aventuriers du Temps that combines nature study with information about Montreal’s history. The camps are in French, but instructors are bilingual.

Ages: 6-9
Location: Smith House, 1260 Remembrance Rd., Montreal
Dates: Les Renards Futés: July 4-8, 18-22 and August 1-5
Les Aventuriers du Temps: June 27-July 1, July 11-15 and 25-29 as well as August 8-12
Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended care available.

GUEPE

Campers explore the environment through play, walks and interacting with animals. The naturalists who run the camp have backgrounds in biology or environmental studies with a specialization in camp animation. In existence since 1993, this is one of the longest running nature day camps in the city. GUEPE offers camps in two locations: one in Bois de Liesse Park and the other in Pointe aux Prairies Park. The two-week sessions are given in French by bilingual counselors and are popular with Anglophones who want their children to improve their French.

Bois de Liesse Park (9432 Gouin Blvd. W., Pierrefonds)
Pointe aux Prairies Park (14905 Sherbrooke St. E, Montreal in Pointe aux Trembles)
