WEST ISLAND COLLEGE
Michel Lafrance, Headmaster
Michel Lafrance has been leading West Island College (WIC) since 2013 and the school has consistently proven to provide an exceptional educational experience to all its students. WIC is a co-ed independent school that welcomes 400 students for grades 7 to 11 and is actually two schools under the same roof: an entirely French school that does not require a Certificate of Eligibility and an English school with a French immersion program.
Mr. Lafrance is a passionate educator who has brought a global vision, the pursuit of excellence and a dedication to independent schools for the past 25 years. Mr. Lafrance is currently the President of the QAIS (Quebec Association of Independent Schools) and an active contributor to the CAIS and FÉEP which are all independent school organizations that WIC is a member of.
In an effort to firmly address the well-being of it students, West Island College is focusing on the theme of Mental Health this year. WIC is committed to emphasizing a culture within which it is encouraged to talk about mental health, where it is discussed openly by students and adults, and where everyone is aware of how these issues affect teenagers. The school community is actively addressing this important topic through information sessions, guest speakers, personal testimonies and exposure to break the stigma.
Mr. Lafrance is committed to improving the school and continues to shape and enhance the WIC environment by focusing on student and staff wellness, teaching excellence and a stimulating learning environment infused with innovation, creativity and cutting-edge technology.
