New theatre classes for teens
If your teenager is excited by the theatre and acting, the Youth Ensemble Theatre Initiative (YETI) has a program that might be of interest. Starting in September, Yeti will be offering an acting program for teenagers who will be taught how to write, analyze, direct, and perform their own plays.
Co-founder Lisa Kagan says the program is for teens who have a bit of experience or a deeper passion for the fine arts. Students will prepare an end-of-term performance that centres on the art of the stage.
Classes begin September 22 for 12 weeks on Saturday mornings or afternoons. Classes are three hours long and cost $375. Students do not need to audition.
The program is offered in three phases, which addresses different aspects of being a theatre professional. Phase one helps students develop as a group, and learn important theatrical acting skills. Phase two offers workshops and training in collaborative performance and development, and phase three is an intensive session focused on rehearsing and performance.
YETI operates out of Shift Space, 1190 St. Antoine W., Montreal. For more information, call (514) 938-0000 or visit http://shiftspace.ca/acting-training/workshops-list/86-young-theatre-ensemble.html.
