Halloween costume sales
Two local sales in October allow families to sell and buy Halloween costumes at reduced prices
Whether your dress-up trunk is bursting at the seams with costumes or you don’t want to spend big bucks on an outfit that your kids are only going to wear once, the Notre Dame de l’Île-Perrot’s (N.D.I.P.) annual Halloween Costume Sale might be the place for you.
The two-day sale, on Oct. 14 and 18, is an easy way to sell off costumes and accessories that kids have outgrown or to stock up on pirate swords, witches hats or princess dresses. The best part? Everything must be sold for $10 or less.
Sellers price their own items, and receive 100 per cent of the money. Any items that don’t sell are returned to their owners.
According to N.D.I.P. Communications Officer Éric Leclerc, the sale was first proposed by the town’s head librarian around seven years ago as a way to help families save money and reduce waste.
“It has been very popular since the beginning,” Leclerc said. “Usually people are lining up outside before the door opens to pick the best costumes.” He said there are usually around 150-300 good-quality costumes for sale at the event, in both adults and children’s sizes, as well as a variety of props and accessories.
Sellers have six days to drop off items at the Carrefour Notre-Dame, at 1300 Don-Quichotte Blvd. This year’s drop-off dates are Oct. 3, 5, 10 and 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Oct. 4 and 11, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Buyers are invited to browse through the costumes at the Carrefour Notre-Dame on Oct. 14 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Another local sale, the Halloween Swap Sale, will take place at the Tyndale St. George's Community Centre on October 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sellers may drop off their items on October 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and also on October 20 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Buyers can them come and browse the costumes to find the perfect outfit for Halloween night.
Ten per cent of the proceeds will go toward the Tyndale St. Georges Children's Library.
