Creative festival all about comics

Families are invited to take part in free workshops, exhibits, lectures, and discussion panels at the Montreal Comic Arts Festival

The whimsical world of comics will be on full display at Espace La Fontaine for the eighth annual edition of the Montreal Comic Arts Festival.

Families are invited to take part in free workshops, exhibits, lectures, and discussion panels featuring 170 local and international authors and artists from May 24 to 26, 2019.

Throughout the La Fontaine Park site, there will be an expo area where more than 70 exhibitors will display their work and discuss different elements and topics relating to the world of comic arts. Rain or shine, workshops will be held throughout the weekend. The site will offer tents for shelter from bad weather.

On Saturday, May 25, 8- to 12-year-olds can flex their creative muscles and create their own zines. On Sunday, May 26, fans of the Japanese comic art can enjoy a workshop over brunch while putting together their own Manga comic, while the authors from the U-Merlin comic series will be explaining their creative process and the complexities of working with a partner.

For those creative and musically inclined young’uns, there is a My Music as a Comic Strip workshop where participants can create the soundtrack to their own comics with the help of Jeunesses Musicales Canada.
