Camp encourages musical exploration
Music teacher Sheila Veerkamp is offering three camps in a relaxed, intimate setting
Sheila Veerkamp, who has been offering music lessons in N.D.G for more than 20 years, has created three new summer camps to introduce children to the joys of playing and composing music.
In the Song Writing and Recording Program, children will create new musical pieces through singing or with their favourite instrument. They will record their masterpieces to take home. Two sessions will be offered: one from July 2-6 for ages 8 to 12 and another from July 16-20 for those 12 and up.
In the Musical Theatre Program, children ages 6-14 will recreate their favourite show tunes using song and dance. They'll design costumes and present a show at the end of week. The session runs from July 9-13. Finally, there is a Piano Camp for young pianists ages 6 and up with a basic knowledge of note reading. Campers will work on their playing as well as creating their own musical pieces. The camp runs from July 23-27.
Ages: 6 and up
Dates: July 2-27 (sessions vary depending on week)
Time: Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with before and after care available.
Cost: $240 per week.
