New summer camps for budding sailors and yogis
The camps are based out of the Eastern Townships and will teach young people the basics of seamanship and yoga
Stanstead College is expanding its summer camp options this year with new programs for young sailors and yogis.
The Tall Ship Adventure Camp is a 10-day sailing experience aboard a tall ship departing Halifax on July 31. In addition to learning the basics of seamanship, young mariners aged 14 to 18 will benefit from team-building and leadership opportunities as they learn about health, history, culture and geography. The $3,800 cost includes room and board, all activities, health insurance and round trip transportation to and from Halifax International Airport.
The Yoga & Wellness Camp, for boys and girls aged 14 to 17, will coach teens to self-soothe in times of stress, improve focus and gain strength and flexibility. Participants will be introduced to meditation, breathing techniques, human anatomy and the eight core principles of yoga. The seven-day camp runs from Aug. 13 to 19, costs $1,350 and includes room and board, supervision, two hours of yoga per day, two hours of theory per day, all workshops and outdoor excursions.
Stanstead College also offers an elite girls hockey camp led by two-time Olympic Gold Medal winner Sarah Valliancourt, as well as hockey camps for boys, language camps to improve English, French or Spanish, as well as debate camps. Cultural and recreational activities include visits to museums, nature parks, amusement parks, camping, swimming, arts & crafts, sports, shopping and bonfires. Students who register for two or more camps receive a five per cent discount.
Founded in 1872, Stanstead is an international, non-profit, co-educational boarding and day school for students in Grade 7 to 12. It is located in the Eastern Townships, an hour and a half from Montreal.
