4 new summer camps
Summer offers children an excellent opportunity to try out new activities from learning about art or fitness to trying photography and playing a different sport. Here are four new programs that began in the summer 2011.
Trails of Summer
Trails of Summer is a new camp offering old-fashioned fun for everyone, including children with special needs. The goal is to have an integrated camp where children of all abilities can play and develop skills together. Campers will enjoy baking, gardening, scrapbooking, dancing, swimming and even oil painting during the camp’s two-week sessions. However, older campers ages 13-16 will follow a special “Teens on the Trail” program, designed to meet the needs and interests of adolescents. This camp is the brainchild of Lynne Pronman, a pediatric nurse and social worker who has spent more than 30 years working with children who have special needs.
Ages: 5-16, with a focus on children with special needs
Location: Pierrefonds Cultural Centre, 9665 Gouin Blvd. W.
Dates: June 27-Aug. 19
Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with before and after care available
Cost: $250/week (minimum two weeks) for the regular program; $285/week (minimum two weeks) for the special needs program

In Treasure Hunters, kids spend the morning making their own treasures from clay, paint and papier-mâché, followed by a lunch break and time spent playing outdoors. In Zoom in on the Photo, campers will take pictures and develop the negatives in a darkroom during the morning and then have outdoor play in the afternoon.

There will also be a presentation for family and friends on the final day.
