Family fun & fire safety at Laval festival
Kids can learn what to do if they are caught in a fire and how to put out the flames as well as enjoy many fun activities
Laval is hosting its 13th annual Grande Fête des Pompiers in Centropolis on June 1 and 2. There will be games, activities, and demonstrations for both kids and parents with a focus on fire safety and supporting local firefighters.
Families will be able to visit the trucks and boats on display all weekend, and firefighters will be on hand to answer questions and explain how the equipment works.
Kids can take part in the Defi Pompier, where they will learn what to do if they get caught in a fire. They will learn how to stop, drop and roll, go through tunnels, and extinguish a fake fire with a real fire hose. Parents can learn how to put out a BBQ fire.
Demonstrations of the firefighters’ work will include putting out a car fire and vehicle extrication. They will also explain how to prevent fires while cooking in the kitchen.
There will be musical shows and entertainment; all activities are family-oriented and free. The festivities will go from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The firefighter races will be held on Sunday, June 2 and will have a registration fee. Families can sign up online for a 1-km, 2-km, 5-km, 10-km, 21.2-km or 42.2-km race. The money raised will go to the Fondation des Pompiers du Quebec.
