Shakespeare in the Park offers youth theatre workshops
Kids can learn about Shakespeare, speak to cast members and participate in a pre-show warm up
Geordie Theatre School and Repercussion Theatre are offering two-hour theatre workshops ahead of select July and August performances of Shakespeare in the Park’s Romeo & Juliet: Love is Love.
The workshops, led by professional artists of the Geordie Theatre School, are for young thespians from all backgrounds, whether they have acted before or not.
The workshops are an educational initiation to the greatest English language playwright. Kids will have the opportunity to practice speaking Shakespearean text in its original form while learning the meaning of the more archaic words. Participants will also have the chance to meet with the cast of Romeo & Juliet, ask the director questions, and participate in a professional pre-show warm up.
The workshop will be offered at Westmount Park July 11 and 29 with an 8- to 12-year-old group and a 13- to 17-year-old group. On July 31, there will be a workshop at McGill Campus’s Three Bares Park and on Aug. 3 at Centennial Park in Beaconsfield. The McGill and Beaconsfield workshops will only have one group for 11- to 17-year-olds.
The workshop costs $35 and kids are encouraged to stay and watch the play. To register online, click here.
