Train tickets for kids cost $15 all summer
VIA Rail is offering special $15 kids' economy class tickets for children aged 2-11 on all routes across Canada.
If you’ve ever dreamed of taking a family train trip, this might just be the summer to do it, taking advantage of a special deal offered by VIA Rail.
All summer long, VIA Rail is offering special $15 kids’ economy class tickets for children aged 2-11 on all routes across Canada. The special rate applies from June 19 to August 31.
From Montreal, families can travel north to Quebec City as far as Matapédia, through the Maritimes as far as Halifax, or south through Ottawa and Toronto as far as Windsor. There are also train routes across the Prairies to B.C. and in Manitoba from Winnipeg as far north as Churchill.
The $15 fare is one-way only, but at $30 round trip, the deal offers significant savings for families. Children under 2 always travel free.

In addition to discounts on summer travel, VIA Rail has also launched a new kids’ club. The Choo Choo Club provides kids aged 2-11 a special goodie bag including an activity book to keep them busy on their trip. Trains on the Quebec City — Windsor corridor and between Montreal and Halifax feature outlets to recharge iPads and other electronics and complimentary WiFi on board. Snacks are available as are microwaves to heat baby bottles and food.
VIA Rail offers an accompaniment service for youth aged 8-18 who are travelling without an adult. To use this service, parents need to sign a waiver of liability and pay a $25 service fee (each way). This service is optional for children over the age of 12. Children younger than 8 are not permitted to travel alone.
