Streets of Mile End come alive this summer

Marché des possibles will celebrate its sixth edition with a pop-up playground, live music and other family-friendly activities

Tucked away in Montreal’s Mile End district is the Marché des possibles, an urban garden oasis that will host tons of fun events for the whole family to enjoy. Every weekend from June 21 to July 28, 2019, POP Montreal will help celebrate the event’s 6th edition with live music, delicious food and plenty of activities for kids.

Marché des possibles will offer several kid-centric activities including workshops led by local entertainment company, La Récré, on the opening weekend. Here, little ones can take part in hula-hoop sessions, face painting, necklace-making and break dancing. The afternoon of Saturday, June 22 will also offer families the opportunity to sit in on a literary reading as well as try their hand at different board games at the Mordecai Richler Library.

On June 29 and July 27, yoga instructor Nathalie Préfontaine will integrate easy yoga moves into her storytelling sessions as part of the Yogistoires, which is geared towards children up to the age of 5. Older kids can partake in the yoga classes taught by Naada Yoga on July 21. For the creatively inclined youngsters, there will be the Lion and the Mouse, a pop-up playground that provides everyday materials and recycled objects for creative fun.

Throughout the event's seven consecutive weekends, kids can also enjoy mini-putt, a giant bean bag toss, and thematic playground installations. There will be tons of food trucks and pop-up restaurants onsite, including Indian delicacies from Nantha's Kitchen, Iranian options, a Malaysian Street Food Night on June 21, the annual Taco Competition on the weekend of July 12, where guests will help decide the best taco.

New this year is Mini-Puces, a smaller-scale version of its fall counterpart, Puces Pop, where local artisans will be displaying and selling everything from jewelry and clothes to cosmetics and houseware. Marché des possibles is a public garden located on St. Dominique St. and the corner of Bernard St. in Montreal’s Mile End district. The garden hosts tons of social and cultural events year round, but is most known for its summer schedule. The space is walking distance from Rosemont and Laurier metro stops.

POP Montreal is a non-profit organization that aims to facilitate emerging artists through events and concerts in Montreal, including an annual music festival.
