Mile End to celebrate summer every weekend with activities

Marché des possibles will celebrate its fourth edition with a pop-up playground, live music and other family-friendly activities

Tucked away in Montreal’s Mile End district is the Marché des possibles, an urban garden oasis that will host tons of fun events for the whole family to enjoy. Every weekend from June 23 to Aug. 13, POP Montreal will help celebrate the event’s 4th edition with live music, delicious food and plenty of activities for kids.

Most kid-centric entertainment will take place on Saturday and Sunday mornings, but you should mark July 16 down in your calendars, as the Marché will be hosting a full day of family-oriented programming. Cirque jeunesse will be on hand to teach African dance and circus workshops to kids, and there will also be tons of music storytelling workshops by special guests Mangala Gao and Giant Bubbles.

Every Saturday at 11 a.m., kids can hang out at the Lion and the Mouse, a pop-up playground that provides everyday materials and recycled objects for creative fun.

Sundays will boast tons of yoga-related fun; every other Sunday as of June 25, a yoga instructor will integrate easy yoga moves into her storytelling sessions as part of the Yogistoires, which is geared towards children up to the age of 5. Older kids can partake in the yoga classes taught by Naada Yoga from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in two separate classes, tout petit (2-6) and pré-ado (7-13).

At Kumulus, an urban design class on July 9, kids can learn about modern architecture and create their own neighbourhoods using sugar cubes. Kids aged 2-6 can take part in  dance classes by instructors Dance Magic, and music classes given by musical group Patamusique on July 8.

On July 22 and Aug. 5, kids aged 2-6 can participate in sing-along sessions with Enfant des villes, enfants des chants.

There will be tons of food trucks and pop-up restaurants onsite, with special events like the Fried Rice Rumble on July 7 and the Malaysian Street Food Night on Aug. 4. There will also be a Taco Competition on July 15, where guests will help decide the best taco.

Marché des possibles is a public garden located on St. Dominique St. and the corner of Bernard St. in Montreal’s Mile End district. The garden hosts tons of social and cultural events year round, but is most known for its summer schedule. The space is walking distance from Rosemont and Laurier metro stops.
