The swing set is a playground staple, enjoyed countless times by children throughout the ages. Now take the swing, simple yet cherished, and add a musical component along with a cool LED lighting system and what you have is 21 Balancoires, an interactive musical installation that will be gracing Promenade des Artistes in August.
Back by popular demand, the installation can be enjoyed between April 10 and June 18, 2017. The attraction boasts 21 special swings that produce a note when used; the tone changes based on the height and speed of the swing’s motions. The interactive musical swings encourage collaboration: while one swing emits a note, multiple swings create a melody! As an added perk, the bottom of the swings light up in various colours after dark.
This neat activity is free and can be enjoyed from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to midnight Thursday to Saturday.
The swings can be found along President-Kennedy Ave. and de Maisonneuve Blvd., between UQAM's Complexe des sciences and Place des Arts.
