KARZ 4 KIDZ raises money for Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation
Fancy cars and fun activities draw people to this annual fundraiser in Kirkland
In 2010, siblings Alexandria and Michael Tremis met a 14-year-old boy who would change their lives. Since the age of 4, Christopher had been fighting brain cancer. He underwent numerous surgeries, repeated radiation therapy and numerous chemotherapy treatments for more than ten years. “He still managed to maintain a positive outlook towards life, which we always found truly inspirational,” Alexandria said.
Christopher died in December 2013 at the age of 17. He regularly talked about the huge role the Montreal Children’s Hospital had on his life, saying he made friends with many of the staff there and even considered them a part of his family. “The [hospital] gave Christopher a chance at life, and continues to do so for many other children – it only made sense for us to do everything we possibly could to support ths remarkable institution,” Michael said.
Just a few short months after meeting Christopher, Alexandria and Michael combined their passions for fast, fabulous cars and community service to create KARZ 4 KIDZ, a car show fundraiser. In the past five years they’ve raised more than $33,000 for the Children’s Hospital and this year, their aim is to raise another $10,000.
The event will be held on Saturday July 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Canadian Tire in Kirkland, 16821 Transcanada Highway. Activities will include a BBQ, a live DJ, a raffle draw and a variety of luxurious and exotic cars from Lamborghinis to ‘70s muscle cars. Car owners are charged a $20 fee per car, which includes a meal and beverage ticket. For all other guests, attendance is free but donations are requested. For more information, visit karz4kidz.ca.
