New workshops offered to empower girls
For the first time, the One Girl organization will be offering monthly workshops in Montreal to help girls feel good about themselves
A new series of monthly workshops for girls aims to help boost self-love, confidence and feelings of empowerment.
One Girl is an organization that encourages empowerment through workshops, events, and programs. Since 2015, they have created chapters in cities all across Canada. They have also partnered with various charities to support girls’ education around the world. This year, they will be bringing a series of workshops to Montreal for the first time.
Starting on March 24, One Girl will present a different workshop each month for girls ages eight to 13, offered in both English and French. During the two-hour workshop, girls will listen to a presentation, speak about their own experiences and take part in various activities that promote self-expression, such as drawing and writing. Workshop tickets are $49.
The first three workshops will be hosted at the Outremont Community Centre. Each one will focus on a unique theme, such as managing social media, learning communication skills, and developing self-worth.
On Sunday, March 24, Celebrating Every Body will focus on body positivity. Girls will explore topics such as beauty in the media, self-love, and uniqueness.
The workshop on Saturday, April 13 will focus on social media, and will include tips on how to stay safe online, and discussion about self-worth and social media, and the use of Photoshop and filters online.
There will be a special Mother’s Day workshop on Saturday, May 11, where girls will be asked to attend with a female role model such as a mom, aunt, grandma, or any woman in their life they want to celebrate. Topics in this workshop will include healthy communication, what makes a good role model, and what makes someone beautiful.
There will be new workshops and events every month; a complete list can be found online. This summer, One Girl Montreal will also be hosting fundraising events where Montrealers can get involved in raising money for charities that provide girls with access to education, school supplies, and uniforms.
