Outdoor art installation lights up downtown Montreal
Luminothérapie features giant cylindrical rings people can sit in and activate lights and music by pulling a handle bar back and forth
For the past several winters, Place des Festivals has been converted into a brightly coloured digital playground during Luminothérapie.
The free event, now in its seventh edition, features an art installation called Loop, which consists of 13 zoetropes (giant cylindrical rings) that play out storybook scenes accompanied by music and lights. These scenes appear when visitors activate the zoetrope by pulling a handle bar back and forth. The digital effects were created by local production companies Ekumen and Ottoblix.
Luminothérapie will be set up in the Quartier des Spectacles until Jan. 29. The zoetropes will be open to the public from noon until 10 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday, and from noon to 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday.
The accompanying video projections will be shown from nightfall until 11p.m. on Sunday to Wednesday, and from nightfall to midnight from Thursday to Saturday.
