Research study recruiting families
Researchers at the University of Montreal are seeking families with children ages 7 to 11 to volunteer for a study on parenting styles, academic giftedness and social adjustment. The researchers are exploring whether gifted children do as well as other children both socially and personally, looking at things like problems relating to peers, self-esteem, boredom in school and disruptive behaviour.
Bessy Pilarinos, a doctoral student who is leading the study, notes that the Quebec school system has no special programs for children with advanced capabilities. She hopes the study will shed light on the best ways to encourage gifted children.
Participants will be asked to fill out questionnaires about their parenting styles while the children will be evaluated using the Wechsler intelligence scale IQ test. Parents who are interested in participating should call (514) 726-9606 or email Vassiliki.pilarinos@umontreal.ca.
