Old Port hosts holiday festivities
Merry Montreal will feature free movies, a Christmas market and other outdoor activities
With the trees shedding their last leaves and Halloween in our rearview mirrors, the holiday season is officially upon us. From Dec. 1 until Jan.1, the Old Port and its surroundings will be transformed into a winter wonderland during the fourth annual Merry Montreal event. This month-long festival features a ton of free, outdoor family fun from movies and a marketplace to presents and a chance to chat with Santa. And staff will be offering free coffee or hot chocolate.
Chat with Santa
Ever wanted to speak directly with old Saint Nick himself? Kids will have the opportunity to ring up Santa in the North Pole using special, candy cane-coloured telephone booths at Place d’Armes.
Movies in the square
Catch a classic holiday film under the stars. The movies will be screened in French at Place Jacques Cartier. Though hot chocolate will be provided, it’s advised to bring a blanket and dress warmly to ward off the chilly weather.
Hunt for presents
During the Gift Dash event, participants are asked to check the Merry Montreal Facebook and Instagram pages for clues on where to find hidden presents every weekend throughout the month of December.
New Year’s Eve party
Families are invited to celebrate 2017 at the Old Port during the outdoor New Year’s Eve party. There will be musical performances and fireworks lighting up the night sky.
