Laurus Camp welcomes young kids
A new junior program at Laurus Summer Camp offers summer activities specifically designed for children ages 3 to 5
Since opening in 2009, Laurus Summer Camp’s mission has been to promote healthy and active lifestyle choices. Previously offered to children between the ages of 5 and 15, this summer the camp is open to kids as young as 3.
Laurus JR (junior) will offer children ages 3 to 4 ½ a variety of activities to develop their physical, academic and social skills. For children between 4 ½ and 5, parents have the option of the regular or junior camp program.
Kids can participate in activities, such as sports, academics, healthy living, and arts. Campers will get to choose the subject matter they are most interested in, and have a specialist work with them for roughly one hour each day. For example, the camp will bring in a professional chef who will help campers interested in healthy living hone certain cooking or baking skills.
Along with these specific training area periods, Laurus JR. offers group activities in the morning, such as soccer or basketball, as well as arts and crafts workshops designed to motivate kids into maintaining a well-balanced lifestyle. The camp also brings in weekly guest speakers from various fields to teach the kids about different career paths. Past guest speakers have included professional athletes, journalists and musicians.
Laurus offers half-day and full-day sessions for those in the junior program. The camp will run for a nine-week session starting June 22 until Aug. 21. There is a 10 per cent discount for those who register for the Laurus JR. program before May 1.
